Proud To Live In America was created to help United States citizens, visitors and recent immigrants make informed decisions on situations that affect their lives. Our goal is to rekindle American pride, change perceptions about minorities, increase patriotism across ethnic lines, help immigrants assimilate into American society and in one convenient place, provide information on a wide variety of educational topics.
In his inaugural speech, President Barack Obama stressed the fact that the United States is a multi-cultural nation that needs to embrace its diversity in order to solve our problems and prosper; "For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. we are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this earth".
Life in America offers more choices and variety than possibly anywhere else in the world. While this makes the United States one of the best places to live and work, it also presents complicated and life-changing decisions.
Making the right choice or decision requires knowledge and can be difficult for everyone. For immigrants to make the choices and decisions that are best for them, they must overcome many things, including language problems, fear, relying on other people, cultural differences and much more.
Proud To Live In America's goal is to provide all people living in the United States or wishing to come to this country with the basic knowledge necessary to help them make their own choices and decisions.
America became the great country that it is through immigration. In the early years of the 1900s, Irish, Italian, and German immigrants came to America to build better lives for their families and added their cultures to everyday American life.
As time passed, immigrant groups moved from their communities, went to different schools, worked with people who had different ethnic backgrounds, married people from other cultures and learned to speak English.
The exchange of culture and ideals created a "melting pot" and made American life a mixture of everyone's cultural heritage. This mixture of cultures made America the best place to live and made America the "Land of Opportunity."
Immigration today is more difficult than it was fifty years ago. Many recent immigrants are easily identified by their language, clothing, culture, religions and traditions. National security and the economy have made immigration and even earning a living more complicated. Difficult does not mean impossible. No immigrant will ever do anything more difficult than coming to America and leaving his culture, friends and family in his native country.
